Who Drinks Personal Wines?

Wine Drinker demographics indicate that gifts of wine are regarded as warm gestures, highly appreciated by 94% of the people surveyed in the United States.

High growth in demand for personalized wines is expected to continue as Business Executives seek cost-effective and meaningful ways of strengthing of relationships with new and existing clients and partners.

Next we'll see who drinks wine and then we'll briefly discuss how one 'knows when' and 'when not' to offer a wine-gift to a customer or prospect. A few cultures are very particular about these matters. Luckily, most people will instinctively feel honored by receiving a personalized gift, such as wine.

Wine Drinker Demographics:

The Texas Journal of Agriculture and Resource Economics estimated in 2002 that typical wine drinkers are 40 years old or more and comprise of 62% of wine purchases in Texas. 29% of wine drinkers are over 60 years old and drink wine every day.

*African American and Hispanic populations are 96 more likely to prefer a white wine or champagne over a red wine.

*Male Caucasian wine drinkers are more likely to prefer red wines over white wines.

*Female Caucasian wine drinkers are more likely to prefer white wines and champagne.

*84% of the Texas population earning $55,000+ drinks wine. (Continued below)

*In an independent research study of 500 people ($50,000+ retail purchases such as auto or custom home)

· 88% were wine drinkers

· 9% were non-drinkers

· 3% were not partial to wine, but did not mind the occasional wine glass.

· 94% of the surveyed would think of a wine gift as a highly appreciated gesture.

· .4% would be offended if they were to receive wine gift.

· 1/6 non-drinking Southern Baptist drinkers drink wine and would prefer the product to be delivered in a package or concealed box.

* 99.9% of all Islamic population do not drink wine and so, wine should not be offered to them.

How does one offer wine?

-Are you interested in receiving a nice gift box and a bottle of wine complimentary of Champions Golf Club or would you prefer a__ (substitute gift) __?

-When the member arrives: “Can I offer you a drink of soda, water, or maybe a glass of wine?” (If they say they they don’t drink, then don’t offer them the wine upon signing for membership/concluding the sale).
